Flexi-Saur

This project highlights an important capability of 3D printing, called “print-in-place”. The ability to construct a fully assembled item from scratch, complete with working hinges and articulation, is currently unique to 3D printing. Across 2 x 90-minute lessons, students will create a model of their chosen dinosaur type. Then they will split the model into sections and add print-in-place hinges. Lastly, they will 3D print their very own “Flexi-Saur”.

To participate in the lesson, students should be able to:
  • Use TinkerCAD, Fusion 360 or Similar CAD software at an intermediate level
  • Be comfortable with the principles of print-in-place hinges and their design
  • Be comfortable using DeeControl software including adjusting print settings
  • Use the BE3D eDee printer
