3D Model of the Maxwell Wheel

Maxwell Wheel

The Maxwell Wheel is a classic device used to demonstrate the conservation of mechanical energy and its conversion into another form of energy such as Kinetic energy. By rotating the wheel by hand, the supporting cords move to the top and, when released, the energy conversion occurs as the wheel falls. Once at the bottom, kinetic energy changes to potential energy as the wheel’s movement rolls the cords up again. This motion and resulting energy conversion continues until all the energy is used due to friction.
